PEME (Pre employment Medical Examination)

The Marine Advisory Medical Service has been assisting Clubs in the IG with the formulation of custom built PEME programs since 2001. It is a work of cooperation with the individual clubs, and attempts to facilitate as many as possible seafarers going to sea. Its objective is to identifying pre-existing disease, which we hope we can remedy prior to the seafarer going to sea.
In keeping with ILO Guide to the Medical Examination of Seafarers, we have the identical objectives of having only crew who are fit for their role at sea and are not a danger to themselves or others. We do not share the liberalism of those who construct flag state medicals, for they bear no burden of the risk should the seafarer succumb to pre-existing disease. Insurance is no substitute for risk analysis, and the well-constructed PEME’s which we offer, falls in place with the loss prevention policy of the clubs.
